Perfect for a Bride or Anniversary ! This beautiful Rosary is destined to become a real collector's item! These are genuine salt water Akoya pearls in grade A+. They are white and carry the softest hue of pink as true salt water pearls do. A strand of these pearls simply knotted on silk with a 14k clasp goes for thousands of dollars, imagine what it's worth when they are wire-wrapped with solid sterling silver and accented with genuine Orissa garnets and vermeil bead caps? This is truly a work of art! An heirloom, an investment, if you will. Pictures can't begin to capture the beauty this Rosary beholds in person. With pearls you have to be very careful with grading and authenticity. Pearls are graded by a sum of their grades for nacre, luster and surface texture. Their value comes from their difficulty to grow. One mussel can contain 50 freshwater pearls at the same time and they can be grown practically anywhere and take 2-6 years to grow. An Akoya (Akoya is the Japanese word for Saltwater) pearl takes 6-18 months to grow. The longer they are left to grow, the better the quality. There is only 1 pearl per oyster and are grown in Japan and China. South Sea pearls are quite difficult to grow, have exceptional quality and grow between 11mm-20mm in size. They are very expensive and come in silver and golden. Tahitian pearls are only grown in the Polynesian waters and other nearby Pacific Islands. They are very sensitive to fluctuations in the environment and very difficult to grow. They were almost made instinct from over harvesting in the late 19th century and have now been carefully regulated and their population is back up. I hope one day to have enough money to purchase genuine Tahitian pearls to make a Rosary with them, but for now, my budget remains with Akoya, which are only a few thousand dollars instead of tens of thousands of dollars.
