When I went to get this rosary appraised, I was a little surprised to find out that the pearls were salt water silver Akoyas. Akoya's are beautiful pearls, and rare and high quality. These are large 8mm - 8.5mm silver metallic natural Akoya salt water pearls wire-wrapped in solid 14kt gold wire. The Paters are also Akoya pearls capped with solid 18kt handmade beads and accented with genuine faceted Burma rubies.
What really makes this rosary stand out is the cross. It is a Museum quality recast. The gemologist let me look at the deatil of the front and back under his microscope and it's amazing! Highly collectible Russian Orthodox cross made by Russian iconographer Feodorov in St. Petersburg, Russia. Each piece has an outer frame of gilded pure 24k solid gold (.999 pure gold). The sculpted iconography is done in solid sterling silver (.925 purity silver) and then deeply oxidized to bring out the detail. Astonishing precision, each piece tells a unique religious story.
